Dose dslibris support Chinese?

dslibris 0.2.5 works perfectly well with french texts. Also a tip for french users : http://www.ebooksgratuits.com/ has a lot of rights free classic litterature provided in multiple formats. Use the Word document format, open it with openoffice and export to xhtml. The generated file will be directly usable in dslibris.
Louis, Chinese should be supported but i have not tested it. The file used must be encoded in UTF-8, other encodings won’t work.
When are you going to include bookmarking? I have a very large book and I hate having to always start at the beginning and scroll right to were I left it!
Otherwise it’s a very fast ebook reader, and the XHTML files are so small!.
Tacketh, bookmarking is supported by saving the last page you were on in the current book you are reading and restoring the book and page on your next session. If dslibris.xml could not be written on your media it would cause bookmarking to fail. Delete dslibris.xml, run dslibris, go to a particular page, then press SELECT and shut off the DS. If no dslibris.xml is on your your media there’s a problem.
I don’t get Textes in German with ÄÖÜ and ß to work. It’s a pity :/.

Thanks Ray, DSLibris works with russian texts too. Has dslibris any limits on filesize? I’ve to split files in parts to make it work.
Good news! I appreciate the info Alexander. There is a filesize limit, at the moment dslibris does not determine beforehand whether it can load a whole file. You’ve discovered this.
Texts in non-latin-1 character sets (eg. Cyrillic, Chinese) will run out or memory sooner than Latin-1 texts. This is related to how UTF-8 works.
This indicates that dslibris should read pages from disk as needed. This is a little tricky. At least it should tell you how much of the text doesn’t fit so you know where to cut it into two.
For those reading in japanese, chinese or korean, use the Cyberbit font:

I haven’t had success getting a Japanese UTF-8 XHTML file to work on this. I keep getting a red window with the message: GURU MEDITATION ERROR! Perhaps you can have a look at the file and tell me what I’m doing wrong.

Okay, I’ve sent you that one and I’ll also send you a new one that I just made that does not get an error message — only a blank page. So I think I’m getting closer.
After several exchanges of information and files, I’ve discovered DSLibris will read Japanese files just fine. They have to be UTF-8 XHTML files, clean with no offending elements or broken tags anywhere. Also with the current version, they have to be hard wrapped to fit the DS window or characters will actually overlap.
Esperanto works fine.
The only real problem I have with dslibris now is that the new versions “paginate” at the beginning, which takes a very long time. Also, I’ve had to write a little script to massage the stuff produced by “pdftohtml”, which is then put through “tidy”, so that the Esperanto international characters (ĉĝĥĵŝŭ + ĈĜĤĴŜŬ) work. Basically, it translates whatever odd thing that came out of that into html-dec encodings.
Hi, I’d like to compliment you guys for a great app, fast and easy to use! I’ve been trying to use it with italian books, and although I followed all the instructions you posted I can’t get accented letters (e.g. é á) to display. Moreover, I also have a book which doesn’t display at all. Just blank. Should I mail them to you Ray? Anyway, keep up the great work you’re doing!
Hello, thanks for this nice piece of software. It works very well with the Czech texts. I have only two small issues (unrelated to accented characters):
1. The pagination is really taking quite a long time for a larger file. As you mention, it would be better (for the user, that is) if DSLibris read just a dozen of pagest into memory and then read more as needed from disk.
2. Some of the HTML elements are ignored. For example, Karel Čapek’s RUR, included with the older distributions of DSLibris, is formatted as HTML table, however, when rendering the text this is ignored and the text is then very difficult to read.
Anyway, nice software — especially because of its support of Unicode!
